I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! Written by Karen Beaumont and Illustrated by David Catrow

A young boy indulges his love of painting pictures, however, not on paper, but all over the house.

Mother is rightly aghast at the mess her son has created on the floor, the curtains, and the door. She loses her temper and declares, “Ya ain’t a-gonna paint no more!” She settles her son and his trusty dog in the bathtub where the water and tub become very colorful, very quickly. Mom then tucks all his painting supplies on a high shelf in a closet. Reluctantly, the boy declares he won’t be painting anything anymore…for about two minutes. He then stacks boxes and such until he is high enough to retrieve his beloved paints so he’s back in business. This time, however, he paints only on himself!

A play on the old song, “It Ain’t Gonna Rain No More,” Beaumont’s delightful text uses rhythm and rhyme for the win: “So I take some red and I paint my head! Now I ain;t gonna paint no more. Aw, what the heck, gonna paint my…”  so that readers will shout out the next body part, “Neck!”

Catrow’s amusing and detailed illustrations perfectly compliment the text and will delight young readers.

Highly recommended for any home, school, or public library.
